Peckham to New Cross
So on Wednesday (15/1) it was the first gig of the year. Kristopher Roe from the Ataris playing acoustic at the New Cross Inn. We saw him there last year and he was excellent, as he was again last night.
We started off in Peckham, and a pub called the Prince of Peckham serving Red Stripe. We then moved on to the Copper Tap which was much better than it looked from the outside. Decent beer selection we settled on a Sagres.
A walk followed as I refuse to pay £1.50 for a bus going two stops and in the very nice White Hart playing lots of eighties songs (Roxette, Phil Collins with Phil Bailey, Huey Lewis etc). Bit of a wait for the Kolsch beer as the barrel had to be changed.
Finally we found a cheap and cheerful sports pub called the Five Bells (£7.30 for two Morettis). They were showing the dull cup reply between Man U and Wolves and also some Cricket with West Indies playing.
We get to the New Cross Inn just as Kris was setting up and enjoy some Estrella during his set. Lots of songs from his classic So Long Astoria album, including The Boys of Summer cover which was not played last time. A good night had.
