Daltrey plays Tommy, Royal Albert Hall 24.3.11
In support of Teenage Cancer Trust.
I am a regular at these annual TCT shows at the Albert Hall and this year was no different. Roger Daltrey did a solo tour of the USA last year which I was disappointed didn't come to the UK. Here was an opportunity for his band to play. Billed as Daltrey sing Tommy, (which wasn't in the USA set), the show opened up with a complete rendition of The Who's classic album. The audience remained seated until Pete Townshend walked out when Acid Queen was due and performed a fantastic acoustic version of the song. Off he walked for Daltrey and band to complete the album. At it's conclusion Daltrey continued with a selection of rarely played Who material such as Pictures Of Lily & I Can See For Miles. Pete Townshend rejoined for Baba O'Reilly before the show ended with an obscure Daltrey song from the movie McVicar. A great show, though not as great as a proper Who one obviously.
